After writing about the state’s proposal to redevelop I-375 in Detroit as a surface-level boulevard, I partnered with my podcast home slice Jer at Daily Detroit to make a video about the issue, “The Motor City Is Getting Rid Of A Freeway.”
We used footage we shot over two days, some audio recorded in his closet and some cool historical photographs we got permission to use of Black Bottom and Paradise Valley, the old African American neighborhoods the freeway destroyed when it was built. I lent my buttery smooth voice and the script; Jer did the shooting, editing and post-production.
It’s pure DIY, baby. Look for more coming in the near future.
