PODCAST: Talking ‘Detroit’ and other summer movies with Cinema Detroit

High summer is a perfect time for movies, so your intrepid Daily Detroit Happy Hour podcast team traveled to Cinema Detroit to speak with owners Paula and Tim Guthat about what’s worth seeing this year.

We spend time discussing “Detroit,” the new film from director Kathryn Bigelow (“The Hurt Locker,” “Zero Dark Thirty”) about the infamous Algiers Motel incident during the 1967 uprising. It’s not exactly escapist fare, yet the film is clearly making a big splash in the city where it debuted, and the Guthats say it’s helped sell a lot of tickets during a normally slow month.

We also talk about some of the notable and unique films that have screened at Cinema Detroit, highlight some upcoming films and talk about some favorite films of summer.
