LISTEN: Melody Baetens discusses Paczki Bombs, Detroit restaurants and roll-and-roll

Melody Baetens is a woman of many hats. By day, she covers entertainment and restaurants for The Detroit News. By night, she slings drinks and books talent as co-owner of Small’s Bar in Hamtramck. She’s also a veteran of the city’s rock scene, having played in bands including The Sirens and the Gore Gore Girls.

Baetens was nice enough to sit down with us on the Daily Detroit Happy Hour to talk about Paczki Day (it’s pronounced pawnch-key, not poonch-key, I just learned) and the, uh, unique-sounding Paczki Bomb drinks she serves up at Small’s, the current state of Detroit’s music and restaurant scenes, working for the News and even our mutual love of Norwegian punk cult favorites Turbonegro.
