Here’s a little homage to autumn, starring one of my favorite trees. It’s a sugar maple that stands on the property of the Park United Presbyterian Church on Woodward Avenue in Highland Park, and when it’s in its peak fall color, it glows like the inside of a jack-o-lantern.
This has been a very strange, eerie autumn: unusually warm, with the color changes at least a couple weeks behind the normal schedule. I snapped these photos not quite every day between Oct. 25 and Nov. 15. In most years that’s well past peak fall colors around here.
